Novel phenolic resins (PF) with improved fracturetoughness and flexibility properties were synthesised andevaluated. A first modification consisted in thecopolymerization of Phenol with a natural renewablecomponent (Cardanol) during the synthesis of PF resins(CPF). An increases in the content of Cardanol resultedin a proportional increases in the flexural strength and inthe fracture toughness together with a decreases in theflexural modulus of the cured CPF/PF blended resins.Further increased plasticizing and toughening effect wasobserved by the blending of the CPF/PF resins withpropylene glycol (PG).
