LOVE AND TRAGEDY AMONG THE MAJOR CHARACTERS OF BUYA HAMKA#039;S TENGGELAMNYA KAPAL VAN DER WIJCK NOVEL

摘要

The study on this paper concerns with the way the researcher finds the types of love,udthe elements of tragedy and the relation between both of it in the major charactersudof Tenggelamanya Kapal van der Wijck Novel. There were found 4 types of loveudand 4 elements of tragedy and the relation between both of them are, love is theudreason for their death. The researcher found that between Zainuddin, Hayati andudAziz there are Agape (altruistic love), Ludus (playful love), Pragma (pragmaticudlove) and Storge (friendship love), as for tragedy, there are plot, character, thoughtudand diction. The method used in this paper is descriptive qualitative analysis whereudthe researcher firstly identified the types of love, the elements of tragedy and theudrelation between it and then categorized it. Data collecting technique is by usinguddocumentary technique. Data analysis technique is to prepare theudutterances/statements/actions which reflects the three questions, identifying,udcategorizing, and describe the types of love, the elements of tragedy and the relationudbetween it. From the analysis, the writer concludes that the love and tragedy in theudnovel have a big influences in the story.
