Food traceability is becoming more and more important for both business and consumers, but is still inadequate in terms of treated scope of information and communication technologies. We have a plurality of devices connected on the internet or via mobile network, which can get us the needed informations that are available to us. We have reviewed some of the solutions, which are enabling us to access informations about the food we buy. The RFID-F2F pilot traceability system solution for fish was examined to its details, which grants us real data on fish traceability in Slovenia. The aim of the thesis was to develop a mobile application for Android, which links traceability and cold chain data from three different databases on the server. The mobile application enables the user to review information about the product, its origin, all steps in the business process and other information. It was designed as a user friendly application, since the user can simply scan a QR code or place a device near a NFC smart card or label on packaged food. This sends a request via HTTP GET method on the server where the REST web service is located. This service then obtains all the necessary information and sends them back to the mobile application as an XML structure. After the data is received on a mobile device, it is presented to the user. Then it is up to the user to decide, whether he is going to purchase the product or not.
