Around 20% area of our country and also more or less the world, at large, is covered with swelling soil. Distress of structure due to swelling soil prohibits multi-storeyed buildings.Researchers, worldover use one or the other type of admixtures to stabilize the swelling soil and restrict its swelling properties. Moreover, the saturating medium may also have an impact on swelling characteristics.In coastal areas there are long bay roads which are very near to the sea and are influenced by the sea water.udFlyash has been long utilized as an admixture in controlling swelling of expansive soils.It is therefore important to study how flyash stabilised coastal roads behave with respect to swelling when they are saturated by saline water in contrast to that when the saturating medium is ordinary water.
