The aim of the BIOCLIM project has been toudprovide a scientific basis and practicaludmethodology for assessing the potential impactsudof long-term climate change on biosphereudcharacteristics in the context of radiologicaludperformance assessments (PA) of radioactive wasteudrepositories in deep geological formations. The projectudbrought together twelve different Europeanudorganisations plus associated sub-contractors withudresponsibilities for either the safe disposal ofudradioactive waste or the development of climateudmodels. Through this scientific and technicaludcollaboration, climate models that can simulate futureudclimate changes in Europe over very long timescalesudhave been developed. The climate modelling resultsudhave been linked to an understanding of the pattern ofudbiosphere changes for selected European regions inudorder to address the issue of how to represent futureudbiosphere systems in long term radiologicaludperformance assessments.udThe project was implemented through five workudpackages (WP).
