This paper deals with the organic geochemistry of a "lignite" bed at the bottom of the Guadix-Bazaudcomposite stratotype section, just below the end of the Olduvai Chron. The results of the organic matterudanalysis (Iow HIC ratio and predominance of even n-alkanes) together with the lack of pollen andudmicromammal remains as well as the abundance of charcoal particles, suggest the development of the firstudwild-fire in the Mediterranean realm, which affected the catchment area of the alluvial fan that fed theudCortes de Baza area.
