Semantic Differential and Example Anchored Scale Comparative Study of Low Socio-economic Whites and Non-whites Attitudes Toward Testing

This study is an exploration of the attitude of lowudsocio-economic whites and non-whites toward themselves andudstandardized testing and an attempt to determine if an individual'sudself-image is related to his attitude toward testing.udA Self-Image Example-Anchored Rating Scale was developedudand administered to determine an individual's self-concept.udA Semantic Differential Rating Scale was adapted to determineudattitude toward standardized testing. The Semantic Differentialudalso investigated attitudes toward authority, peerudgroups and surroundings. Two hundred East-San Francisco BayudArea continuation school students, homogeneously grouped,udcomprised the population. The Semantic Differential and Self-ImageudExample-Anchored Rating Scale were administered in fourudcontinuation schools, results were tabulated and subjectedudto computer analysis. Self-Image ratings divided the populationudinto four groups. These four groups were analyzed forudcorrelations and variance. A factor analysis was performedudto determine relationship of variables.udResults of the investigation demonstrated significantudrelationship between self-image and attitude toward standardizedudtesting.
