In humid regions and organic production of potatoes, late blight poses a special challenge for farmers. The only effective treatment against it is copper, which is strictlyudregulated by EU and national organic regulation bodies. “Bio-Austria” as an Austrian one, allows for example only 2 kg copper ha-1 year-1. The Institute for Organic Farmingudat AREC Raumberg-Gumpenstein carried out two field trials in 2010 and 2012 with two alternative treatments in comparison to copper: Myco-Sin and an extract of field horsetail (Equisetum arvense). The field trials confirmed the use of copper as best protection of the leaves against late blight with the highest tuber yield, showing a significant difference to all other treatments.
