It is required to clarify the characteristics of forced vibration with magnetic damping for anearthquake-resistant design of conductive thin shell structures located in an electromagneticfield. In this paper, the characteristics of forced vibration are examined using finite elementtightly coupled analysis and single-degree-of-freedom coupled model. The results show thatthe change of resonance frequency is different from that of general viscous damping problemsfor some combinations of material properties and magnetic fields. It is pronounced when theeddy current decay rate is close to the natural period of the structure.
