This manual is intended to help extension officers in giving the best advice to individual farmers on the safe storage of grains and pulses and it provides:ud• guidance on how to analyse farmers' storage problems to be able to give the best adviceud• information on the major causes of spoilage in stored grains and pulses and methods of prevention and controlud• a summary of the basic principles of good storage practice ud• descriptions of the more common methods of storing grains and pulses on the farm in Africa.udThe word 'grain' is used here to include maize, sorghum, millet, wheat and rice when they are harvested. The word pulses refers to all kinds of legumes such as beans and cowpeas.
