IntroductionudSeaweeds are the extraordinary sustainable resources in the marine ecosystemudwhich have been used as a source of food, feed and medicine. These marine naturaludproducts possess a broad range of activity as antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal,udcytotoxic and anticancer.udMethodsudStudy of antimicrobial activity and TLC-bioautography of green seaweed Ulvaudreticulata extracts against human pathogenic bacteria and yeast has been done invitroudby agar diffusion method. Five extracts (n-hexane, dichloromethane, ethyludacetate, methanol and water) of Ulva reticulata were tested for their antimicrobialudactivities against two Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillusudsubtilis), two Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonasudaeruginosa) and one yeast (Candida albicans).udResultsudAmong the five extracts, the dichloromethane extract had the highest antifungaludactivity against yeast Candida albicans with diameter of inhibition zone of 28.63 mm.udTLC-Bioautographic assay of dichloromethane extract using n-hexane/ethyl acetateudas mobile phase showed one active spot as a triterpenoid compound with Rf value ofud0.54.udConclusionudThe results showed that the green seaweed Ulva reticulata which abundantly foundudin the coastal area of Takalar waters has a good prospect as antibiotic candidateudagainst bacteria and yeast pathogens in human
