Transmissionnetworkshavesomeconstraintsthatshouldbeaddressedinordertoensuresufficientudcontrol tomaintainthesecuritylevelofapowersystemwhilemaximisingmarketefficiency.Themostudobviousdrawbackoftransmissionconstraintsisacongestionproblemthatbecomesanobstacletoudperfect competitionamongthemarketparticipantssinceitcaninfluence spotmarketpricing.Astheudpower flow violatestransmissionconstraints,redispatchinggeneratingunitsisrequiredandthiswilludcause thepriceateverynodetovary.Thismanuscriptpresentsconcepts,technicalchallengesandudmethodology forinvestigatinganalternativesolutiontotheredispatchmechanismandthenformulatesudLMP schemeusinganoptimisationtechniquethatmaywellcontrolcongestionasthemainissue.TheudLMP schemearevariedandimprovedtotakeintoaccounttheenergyprice,congestionrevenue,costofudlosses, aswellasthetransmissionusagetariffbyutilisingshiftfactor-basedoptimalpower flowud(SF-OPF), whichisderivedfromthewell-knownDCoptimalpower flow(DC-OPF)model
