Study on Fyke Net Operation for Environmental Friendly Catching of Reef fish

Study on fi,shing operotion of fuke net has been conducted at reef waters at the west coast of Selayar Island yom November 2A08 rc Octuber 2010. Ihe objective of this research is to determine the best design and technical performance of the fyke nets. Fyke net is chosen as an experimentalfishing gear because it shape is a combination between basket trapnets "bubu" and fence selnet (sgra), traditionally fishing gear which ore commonly used in reef. There are three type.s of -fyke net ond two inethods of operation were exatnined. RAPFISH (Rapid Appraisal of Fish Status) is used to analyze which type offyke net is the most suitable for reef, RAPFISH applies a statistical ordination technique called Multi-Dimensional Scaling (ITIDS). The result is the third fyke net, made of light snd non corrosive materials shows the best value for it performance anC teclmical operations. Static operation is suitable for mid reef operation while movable operation isfor better catch.
