摘要

Approximately 20% of newly educated teachers i Denmark have stopped work as teachers 5 years after they have graduated. This thesis investigates how society and work conditions have changed and have significantly impacted the increase in graduate teachers who stop their teaching career early.In this thesis the sociological field analysis of Bordieu was used as the theoretical frame to investigate the changes that have shaped the teaching field and the consequences which the current situation is a result of. The analysis is based on both a historical analysis of the development that has taken place in teaching and interviews with three former teachers.The analyses point to different areas which potentially can impact the decision to stop in the profession:- The teacher degree is not regarded as a prestigious degree, by former teachers. The analyses propose that this may have the effect, that teachers concede problems in the classroom as self criticism.- The changes in the public sector in Denmark have had the consequence that the government has gained more influence on the day to day routines in the schools. This also has the effect that the teachers now have fewer options to influence their own teaching practises.Many of these changes have the character of government control taking, which might influence the newly graduated inexperienced teachers more than the practised teachers. This is due to the inexperienced teachers do not have prior practice in the field and the knowledge that the work and teaching can be carried out with different principles and ideologies. Hence, young teachers might give in easier to the governed structures, even though that does not work in their favour or interest.
