Male-to-Female and Female-to-Male Transsexualism - A Theoretical Investigation

This project contains a theoretical investigation of MtF and FtM transsexualism. The theoreticalpoint of departure is Harry Benjamin’s book The Transsexual Phenomenon. The former providesa general overview of the struggles a male transsexual faces in his life. Subsequently, theprojects proceeds by giving a detailed account of Blanchard’s Theory of Autogynephilia. UsingLawrence’s and Blanchard’s research, the term autogynephilia is described and discussed. In theinvestigation of FtM transsexualism, two types of FtM transsexuals are introduced and described.Based on the theoretical knowledge, the author discusses the possible reasons for why FtMtranssexuals do not apply for sex reassignment surgery. The second part of the discussionfocuses on the differences and similarities between MtF transsexuals and FtM transsexuals.
