AbstractThis paper examines the impact of social heritage concerning children and young adults who are placed in care, and what possibilities there are for intervention. Our research focuses on the analysis of two young individuals who has been placed in social care, Jennifer and Anders. They tell narratives about their life and experiences before, during and after being placed in social care and what effects these experiences have had on their lives. The analytical strategy of the paper is to create a greater understanding of this matter by including the social- psychological theories of Pierre Bourdieu and Peter Berliner. The paper will also research how social inheritance and resilience can be understood and explained from a theoretical point of view which will supplement our empirical study of children young adults placed in social care. Our research shows that social heritage has a great impact on the actions and options of individuals. There is however the opportunity of social intervention based on special initiatives that focus on the importance of the surrounding community.
