Despite earlier positive findings, there is a paucity of research on the effectiveness of Melodic Intonation Therapy on the Chinese speaking populations. Four Chinese speaking persons with mild non-fluent aphasia participated in an eight-week MIT treatment course with emphasis on rhythmic tapping and melodic intoning. Although the overall language performance did not appear to change over the treatment period, the participants showed week to week progress on mean length of utterance and maximum length of utterance with the target utterances. However, it did not make a difference whether rhythmic tapping or melodic intoning was employed as the training method.
