Mass media such as television, radio, newspaper, magazine, and internetudbecome a crucial need for society. Especially television as a mass media which is soudclose and easy to be accessed by every people. Television presents programs whichudtheir characteristic can be as entertainment, education, giving knowledge and newudexperience for every audience. So this is why television programs are liked by everyudkind of people.udHowever, television programs which take cultural things are lack in amount.udIndonesian original culture like Javanese culture should has a place in television. But,udprograms that contain culture like Javanese culture is still lack in amount. One of theudexamples is Karang Tumaritis. This program has been presented by TVRI StasiunudDaerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. Karang Tumaritis contains dialogue about Javaneseudculture and how it relates for its development at the present time in Yogyakarta.udTVRI as a Public Broadcasting Organization in Indonesia has a duty to giveudinformation serving, education, and healthy entertainment, control, and socialudadhesive, and preserve nation culture for every society importance. For DaerahudIstimewa Yogyakarta that basically from Javanese culture, TVRI Stasiun DIY hasudmissions which one of these is being central of the main information serving andudserving healthy entertainment with making optimal local region potency and cultureudthat grows and develops in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta.udFor this research about television program and cultural preserving, writer usedudqualitative method with the kind of descriptive. It was located in TVRI Stasiun DaerahudIstimewa Office in Magelang Street km. 4,5 Yogyakarta. Collecting data techniqueudused from source and kind of main data such as written noted or through record. Then,udfor written source used document about Karang Tumaritis. Writer used observation,udinterview, and field note. For data analysis technique used Miles and HubermanudInteractive Analysis Data. And then, for data validity technique, writer used diligenceudin observation and triangulation. Triangulation that writer took was source andudmethod.udFrom data analysis result that had done by the writer it resulted clarificationudabout role of Karang Tumaritis as Javanese preserving media. Those roles wereudformed from the aim of Karang Tumaritis and data analysis result after doing research.udFrom data analysis result, writer also found obstacles for Karang Tumaritis inudpersevering Javanese culture. However, those obstacles did not effect for the successudof Karang Tumaritis as a media that helped to preserve Javanese culture in Yogyakartaudsociety.udFrom research and data analysis, writer could find role of Karang Tumaritis asudYogyakarta society. First, to informudglorious values in Javanese culture to wide society. Second, to rebuild spirit ofudsociety’s life according to Javanese glorious values. Third, to preserve all kind of Javanese product. Fourth, as a medium for interactive dialogue through televisionudwhich could sharpen audiences’ mind in culture field. And fifth, as a medium forudsocialization of Javanese preserve programs in Yogyakarta. And for the obstaclesudwere financial problem, has not collaborated with young people yet, the technologyudthat has been used by TVRI, human resources of TVRI that were old, how to finish theuddialogue when program was in process, the exclusives of its audience who were justudolder people and someone with high awareness of cultural things, and less inudpresenting time because of just once in two weeks.udAs a program about Javanese culture, Karang Tumaritis has roles inudpreserving Javanese culture. These five roles are important roles which can helpudprocess of preserving Javanese culture in Yogyakarta. TVRI Stasiun Daerah IstimewaudYogyakarta has given a space for preserving Javanese culture through televisionudprogram called Karang Tumaritis.ududud
