Maxine Hong Kingston (1940-…) is one of the greatest Chinese American udwoman authors, who give a great contribution to Asian American literature. One of udher literary works, The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of A Girlhood Among Ghosts udconstitutes a unique writing according to Asian American critics. Not only because of udthe content but also the genre are unique. Maxine Hong Kingston has combined her udimagination and real experience in an autobiographical form. ud This research is a library study research, which applies descriptive method to udgive clear information about the Chinese American national character changed in the udWW. The objectives of this research are to investigate the reasons of Chinese udAmerican second generation to change their characters and to find out what they are. ud To analyze the data, the researcher uses interdisciplinary approaches. The udresearcher combines sociological and literary approaches. Sociological approach is udapplied to analyze the socialization process and its connection to the character udchanging. Literary approach is to understand the structure of the work, which was the udresult of observation and reflection toward the phenomenon in the real life. Moreover, udboth approaches share the same problem to learn. udFrom the result of analysis, the researcher finds that historical, social, udeconomical, and educational experience constitutes the reasons for Chinese American udsecond generation to change their characters.
