Ade Saputra. A Study on Relevance Vocational School’s Education Unit Level udCurriculum Competency Standard to The Demand for Mechanic of udMotorcycle Workshop in Surakarta Municipal. Thesis, Surakarta: Teacher udTraining and Education Faculty of Sebelas Maret University, November 2010. udThe objectives of research are (1) to get a description about the udgraduation’s competency needed by the automotive service industry (motor udworkshop); (2) to get a description about the graduation’s skill needed by the udautomotive service industry (motor workshop); and (3) to find out the relevance of udVocational School’s Education Unit Level Curriculum Competency standard toudthe demand for motorcycle mechanic. udThis study employed a descriptive qualitative method. The population of udresearch was all mechanics existing in Surakarta Municipal, and all chiefs of udworkshop within it. The sampling technique employed was purposive sampling, udthe data was determined purposively based on the characteristics of workshop. udThe workshops taken were the general motorcycle workshops (the ones handling udall brands of motorcycle) in Surakarta. The number of general motor workshop in udSurakarta municipal taken in this research was 28 workshops with 82 mechanics. udThe data of research was obtained from Mendikdasmen’s documentation, udthe requirement of automotive service industry in Surakarta Municipal. From the udobservation on the workshop, the distribution of questionnaire to the mechanics, udand interview with the chief of workshop. This research employed flow model of udqualitative data analysis developed by Miles and Huberman (1992), the analysis udwas carried out in 3 stages: reducing data, displaying data and drawing a udconclusion. In order to analyze the data collected, the research employed the udpercentage sample for finding out the compatibility level of Vocational School’s udEducation Unit Level Curriculum Competency standard and the demand for udmechanic of motorcycle workshop. udConsidering the result of research, it can be concluded that (1) the business udarea existing in the society today has established a specialty, in which one udperpustakaan.uns.ac.id digilib.uns.ac.idudcommit to user udixudbusiness area deals with only one type of work. (2) the standard competency made udby MENDIKDASMEN has been “very high/very compatible” with the udrequirement of automotive service industry in Surakarta Municipal. (3) out of udsixteen component existing of general workshop’s demand level for competency udstandard, ten of them are classified as very high demand: repairing hydraulic udsystem, maintaining battery, repairing engine fuel system, repairing coupling unit udas well as its operation components, repairing brake system, servicing wheel, tire udand chain, doing mild reparation in the electricity and instrument system series, udrepairing starter system, repairing filling system, and repairing combustion udsystem. Four of them are classified as high demand: repairing disposed gas udsystem, overhauling the head of cylinder, repairing the engine as well as its udcomponents, repairing suspension system; one components classified into udsufficiently high demand: repairing manual transmission; and one component is udclassified into very low demand: overhauling cooling system as well as its udcomponents. (4) in addition to the predefined standard there are still other udcompetencies needed by the automotive service industry performers such as udrepairing automatic transmission, maintaining and repairing fuel injection system udor called efi (electronic fuel injection), customer service, and workshop udmanagement. (5) the standard motorcycle engineering competency of Vocational udSchool’s Education Unit Level Curriculum is 95.43% of 28 workshop with 82 udmechanics consistent with the demand for mechanic of motorcycle workshop in udSurakarta Municipal, and 4.57% of 28 workshop with 82 mechanics is not udconsistent with the demand for mechanic of motorcycle workshop in Surakarta udMunicipal. Incompatibility of 4.57% existing is not because the small demand for udsuch competency in the automatically service industry, but because other factors udaffecting it. Those factors are: limited competency of mechanic and also many udservice business units specially deals with certain area (for example velg udstandardization, air brushing, and welding).
