THE EFFECTIVENESS OF GROUP INVESTIGATION udCOOPERATIVE LEARNING METHOD IN GEOGRAPHY SUBJECT IN udBASIC COMPETENCE OF CAPABILITY OF IMPLEMENTING THE udGEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM (SIG) IN GEOGRAPHICAL udSTUDY (An Experimental Study on Grade XII Students of SMA Muhammadiyah ud2 Gemolong in School Year of 2008/2009). Thesis, Surakarta: Teacher Training udand Education Faculty. Surakarta Sebelas Maret University, 2008. ud udThe objective of research is to find out the effectiveness of Group udInvestigation cooperative learning method (GI) in geography subject in the basic udcompetence of Capability of Implementing the Geographical Information System udin Geographical Study in the grade XII students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 udGemolong in School Year of 2008/2009. udThis research employed an experimental method with Control Group udPretest-Posttest Design. The population of research was all grade XII IPS students udof SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Gemolong in School Year of 2008/2009 consisting of udfive classes. The sample was taken using cluster random sampling technique udinvolving 68 students divided into two classes: XII IPS 1 and XII IPS 2. udClassroom is considered as a group unit, so that with five classes of population, udthere are also five groups, each of which has an equal opportunity to be chosen as udthe sample. The technique of collecting data used for group investigation udcooperative learning method variable was literary study and the students‟ learning udresult was obtained through the multiple-choice test. Technique of collecting data udused was covariance analysis. udThe result shows that the values Fobs = 16.74, and F table (n = 34) at udsignificance level of 5% with Ftable = 3.99, meaning Fobs > Ftable (16.74 > 3.99), so udthat the H0 is not supported and Ha is supported; thus it can be concluded that udthere a significant difference of students‟ learning result score between expository udand group investigation (GI) methods. It can be seen from the means difference of udexpository and group investigation (GI) methods (62.07% and 74.05%). Thus, the udgroup investigation (GI) method is more effective than the expository one. ud
