This research focuses on the American myth of technology as a savior andudits paradox in American technology. The researcher formulates two problemudstatements: How does the film The Island reflect the myth of Americanudtechnology as a savior? And How does the film The Island reflect the paradox ofudhuman cloning in American technology?. The purposes of this research are toudexplain how The Island film reflects the myth of American technology as a saviorudand to explain how The Island reflects the paradox of human cloning in Americanudtechnology. This research is a library research. The researcher answers the twoudproblem statements by using semiotic film theory and sociological approach andudsupported by mythological to popular culture.udThis research is conducted within the boundaries of American studies. Theudmain source of data in this research is The Island, a film, by Michael Bay that wasudproduced by A Parkes/MacDonald in 2005 and casted by Ewan McGregor andudScarlett Johansson. The Island VCD is distributed in Indonesia by DreamworksudDistribution LLC. The main data of this research are the dialogues, character’sudfacial expression, characters’ attitudes and beliefs, and cinematographic elementsudof The Island that are related to the problem statements in this research. Theudsupporting data of this research are The Island film script, books, articles, and theudInternet’s sources that are related to the problem statements.udFrom the analysis, the researcher draws two conclusions. First, humanudcloning technology in The Island reflects the myth of American technology as audsavior through its plot and cinematographic elements that emphasize the importantudrole of cloning technology for human survival. And secondly, human cloningudcreates a paradox for American technology.
