Exploring the attitudes of secondary school chemistry trainee teachers

This article reports the first part of the researchuddone to explore the attitudes of graduateudscientists involved in a UK government initiativeudto increase the number of chemistry teachers inudsecondary schools in England and Wales. Theudgraduates were training to be chemistry teachersudat the University of East London (UEL). The workuduses two well-documented instruments to exploreudthe attitudes of trainees to the subject of chemistryudand chemists. It compares and analyses results;udthe work was done with a small number of traineeudteachers over several years. It highlights someudissues and inconsistencies in the attitudes ofudgraduates through a possible mismatch betweenudthe instruments.
