This paper considers the function of emigre architects in New Zealandu27s public works in the period from 1935. It offers a theoretical reading for the nature of the modernity at stake in their work and in the kinds of transformations that they enacted. The reading draws on ideas of Manfredo Tafuri and Bart Verschaffel.
