Bacterial Contamination of Bathing Facilities in Day Care Center and the Disinfection Efficiency of Oxidizing Water

The bacterial contamination of bathing facilities in a day care center was examined, and the disinfection efficiency of oxidizing water was compared with 80% ethanol and acetyldiaminoethylglycine-HC1 (Tego-51). Of six bathing facility components, the largest number of bacteria was found on the belt(1.2×10^6 CFU / 100cm^2), followed by the reverse side of the stretcher (1.1×10^5 CFU / 100cm^2). Bacterial count on the bathtub, the upper side of the mat, the side of the most the reverse side of the stretcher, and the inside of the pipe were found in lower bacteria count than the other two items. The reduction in number of bacteria on a bathtub and mat was not fully effective by scrubbing with a detergent, but after treatment with disinfectants, the bacterial counts were reduced to 1-5 colonies on each plate. In comparision with the number of colonies after each disinfection of the bathtub and mat, the number of colonies after disinifection with oxidizing water was significantly less than that after disinfection with 0.2% acetyl-diaminoethylglycine-HCL (Tego-51), but was similar to that of 80% ethanol. From these results, it should be considered that disinfection of bathing facilities is necessary, and oxidizing water is useful as a disinfectant for bathing equipment.
