"The importance of public-private partnerships in development cooperation is increasing. Against thisbackground the article analyses the effectiveness of the public-private partnership between the GermanTechnical Cooperation (GTZ) and the Foreign Trade Association of the German Retail Industry(AVE). The partnerships project aimed to improve compliance with social standards in the textileindustry. The analysis focuses on the effectiveness of the national round tables in Bulgaria, China, andin the Philippines. The article also discusses factors, such as global market structures, the differentbackground conditions in developing countries and the cooperation between project partners, that havean influence on the success of partnership projects."
