This work dealt with the photographic document in the scope of its description inarchives and libraries. Its purpose was to make a possible comparison between theAACR2 rules, used for bibliographic description in libraries, and the ISAD(G) rules, which are used to obtain an archivist description. In order to do so, the concept ofdocument was firstly considered, dealing with its role in archives and libraries, as wellas with the photography history. The photographic document was then analyzedunder the viewpoint of both areas, considering their differences and similarities, emphasizing the main element of study of both areas: the information. In the light ofthe archival principles and the library treatment theory, it reflects upon description, ingeneral, and about this description when applied to a document which haspeculiarities and is used in debates, which reflect on its availability to users and itsstudy, in general.
