Potebnya «About Kupala fires and the related notions»udThe author of the article tried to determine the role of A. Potebnya in the study of the structure of the Kupala rites. Proceeding from the premise that modern folklore specialists and ethnographers distinguish constituent parts of Kupala rites such as twining wreaths, singing and dancing in a ring around a ritual tree, making a fire, burning and sinking a ritual sapling, burning a straw doll, jumping over a fire, preparing a ritual dinner, we determined which of the mentioned above rites were indicated in the article by A. Potebnya. In connection with this, we can speak about the fact that A. Potebnya laid down the foundations for further studies of the structure of the Kupala rites.
