摘要

Purpose: The objective of this study was to test gender difference model in the Cuban scientific publications on Medicine.Methodology: In this study, the gender difference model was tested using bibliometrics. The analysis was limited to documents registered in Web of Science during the period of 2000 to 2007. Gender differences in scientific productivity were examined in a sample of 1910 records. Name desambiguation was carried out and author’s names were classified into males and females. 95% of all records under Medicine related categories were normalized. Production, authorship, collaboration and visibility indicators were measure.Findings: The publications patterns of Cuban authors during 2000-2007 were not affected by gender. This study confirms the presence of significant differences in productivity between men and women when they don’t practice intergender collaboration. Negative effects on visibility and productivity are stronger for female than male when they publish in groups where colleagues have the same sex.
