La formación bibliotecológica en metadatos desde una perspectiva interdisciplinaria : terminología, informática y comunicación

This paper describes elements necessary for the training of authors and library and information science professionals in the current digital society. The paper proposes this training occur from an interdisciplinary perspective, namely the university, library, and organizational context. The paper provides a contextualization of the characteristics and causes that make this training so vital, followed by a theoretical and conceptual description regarding metadata for digital objects. The paper then focusses on the necessity of training and education from the point of view of processes currently underway in various countries and organizations, specifically at the Escuela Interamericana de Bibliotecología. The paper concludes by exploring particular cases where metadata is a key mechanism to the implementation of a digital library.
