Archivists continue to meet its essential functions, even in the digital age, although they need intellectually to add value in the definition of e-government policies, and in the formulation of functional data systems that support record management and digital archive. This work reviews the Spanish legal framework,the technical standards, both national and international that have a direct impact on the definition of records management policies, and the implementation of the archival function in organizations. It does not pretend to be a manual on records management, but a practical guide that allows both the archivist and the leadership of the organizations to have a theoretical basis of reference to successfully address any project on records management and archiving.
