15 Years of information professionals at the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland - thoughts about the education of a so-called key profession of the information society. In 1997, the four-year diploma programme Information Professions was founded as Austria's first and still only LIS undergraduate programme. From this, a Bachelor's in Information, Media & Communication as well as a Master's in Applied Knowledge Management evolved step by step. However, even after 15 years, some critical questions still await their final answer: What is the most suitable theoretical framework for the education of information experts? Which aspects should the practical part of the training focus on? What is the typical occupational field per se – is thereudone at all?
