Scientific journals are involved in a tranformation process accelerated by the incorporation of new information technologies into the scholarly publishing system. This article intends to offer a general view of the evolution during the last five years, taking a look on the publishing and distributing sector trends, emergent publishing alternatives, open access campaigns and adaptation strategies make alive by research libraries.
