This work is a theoretical and historical approach to expert systems (ES) of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and in addition it delineates the possible applications of ES-AI to the field of librarianship, library science, documentation and other documental information sciences. As for the practical part of the work several bibliographic searches were conducted to try to cover all the scientific literature published in the world related to this thematic and recorded in scientific bibliographic databases from systems such as Dialog, Silver Platter, Ovid, and others, which at the same time were organized with the software Reference Manager; 133 pertinent records were retrieved on the thematic, but only 20 documents were actually found in full text at the libraries of ITESM Monterrey Campus Monterrey and Universidad de Monterrey.
