The objective of this study was to observe superficial defects in the Reciproc 25 and Wave One Gold Primary files before and after the instrumentation of root canals in molars.The rotating instruments selected for this research, Reciproc R25 and Wave One Gold Primary, were observed under a scanning electron microscope.Each study group was subdivided by cervical, middle and tip thirds. All canals were prepared by the same operator. This procedure was repeated for each duct at 3, 6, and 9 uses. The files passed through a sterilization mechanism or autoclave at 3, 6 and 9 uses. All instruments were observed under a scanning electron microscopy scan at 500 x after preparing the curved root canals. The following images were obtained for the samples: Microscopic defects: sharp edges, geometry of the edges and tip of the instruments and the surface of the instrument. Statistical analysis was performed with the statistician Kruskal Wallis, given the structure of the variables. After analyzing the surface defects in a global way and making a comparison between both systems it can be concluded that Reciproc is the most efficient file. None of the two systems showed a statistically significant fracture index in order to conclude which file is broken more.
