Estudio comparativo de una edificación de período corto y período largo con aislamiento de base elastomérico y sin aislamiento de la base

This thesis study the dynamic behavior of two structures, a short period building which is a hospital, and a long period structure designed according to this study´s objectives. Both buildings are modeled using elastomeric base isolators and without them. Time - history analysis is performed with structural analysis software – Sap2000; for this analysis, 9 seismic records from the PEER database and an artificial earthquake record by Dr. Fabricio Yépez are considered. This study analyses the dynamic responses in terms of horizontal displacements and accelerations, due to the seismic records, acting on the structures. Results show that the use of elastomeric base isolators is more efficient when applied to short period buildings rather than long period structures.
