El uso de la tabla de criterios como una forma de evaluación de la destreza oral de estudiantes de inglés como segunda lengua

This study focuses on the implementation of a rubric as a tool to evaluate the oral skillsof a group of students at eight level studying English as a second language in the LanguageInstitute of the Universidad Tecnológica Equinoccial. The primary purpose of this study wasto describe the change in oral skills of students that was evidenced with the use of thisevaluation tool. The study began with the application of the rubrics as a way to evaluateEnglish students' oral presentations, the group of students and teachers gave interpretativeanswers from their perspective. The information was recovered about the influence of this wayof evaluation compared with the traditional way of grading by teachers. The oral skill ofstudents with the rubric as an evaluation tool was assessed through the application of surveysto teachers and students, an interview to the main teacher and the comparison of the students´grades. The principal findings of this study showed that the grades of the students did notimprove by using the new evaluation tool. On the other hand, the perceptions that the studentsand teachers had using the rubric were positive and beneficial. The study ends by suggestingvaluable recommendations to English teachers to use a rubric as a way of evaluating studentsbearing in mind that its use must be constant and in a long term plan.
