Prevalencia y prácticas de automedicación en los estudiantes de primero a quinto año de la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad San Francisco de Quito en octubre del 2009

Self-medication is the event when people use drugs without any medical prescription, and nowadays it is still a public health problem in our country; that is the reason why this study wants to obtain new values about this problem and focus them in medical students who are the futures health educators. This study was based in a survey about self-medication behaviors and had 174 participants from the first five years of the USFQ Medical School during October, 2009. The study showed that the prevalence of self-medication was 68.4%, the male students were the participants who practiced more this behavior, while the female students were more predisposed to choose the best drug to treat their health problem and were more predisposed to use it correctly. It also showed that the medical students from third, fourth and fifth year were more predisposed to choose and use correctly the drug to treat their health problem.
