摘要

The advances and the studies done on the mechanical behavior of beam-wall joints outside of the plane, present a slow front in a worldwide level. In the last few years the interest in the knowledge about these type of connection where the beam is positioned perpendicular to the structural wall has become evidently grown. In this document it's presented a compilation of information from various available investigations to date, about the design of the beam-wall joints for buildings. This way, 3 buildings of 4, 8 and 12 stories with dual structural system are designed according to the recommendations of the 2013 Ecuadorian Construction Norm and the 318-08 Committee of the American Concrete Institute. The thesis shows in detail the calculation and preparation of uniform seismic hazard spectra for earthquakes of 5%, 10% and 20% probability of exceedance in 50 years using the seismic hazard study for the city of Quito presented in NEC with which the structures are designed. As final result the construction costs of each building, with prices from the local market, for each of the corresponding periods of return was obtained; thus provides important information, in comparative terms, of safety, costs and volumes of materials for the structures. It concludes with a further comparison of costs, volumes and advantages between the buildings discussed in this document in front of others with the same features, but only composed of special earthquake resistant frames.
