This paper present the implementation of an algorithm to improve the color of an image considering global and local effects, including the spatial distribution of color. The algorithm performs the color enhancement automatically equalizing the colors and improving the image. The algorithm is called ACE (automatic color equalization). The implemented algorithm is based on the human visual system and at the same time use the equalization methods "White Patch" and “Gray World “. ACE is an adaptive algorithm that can handle different levels of brightness when the image is equalize. The algorithm has shown very good results maintaining color and brightness constancy, while equalizing and improving the image. The paper presents the mathematical perspective, the characteristics and results of the algorithm. The results show an image with higher contrast. The resulting image is visually better and contains a higher number of details. Concluding ACE maximizes the information contained in the image.
