The current development of orthodontic adhesives has focused on achieving permanency of the brackets in place for the duration of the treatment in addition to seeking an adhesive system that maintains the integrity of the enamel when the brackets are removed. These fundamentals apply to both metallic and ceramic brackets; the latter have a much higher rate of damage on the enamel surface given their composition, which gives them greater hardness but also predisposes them to fracture during removal, hence hindering their complete removal. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare shear tests by the adhesive strength of three different types of ceramic brackets whose bases were subjected to three conditioning processes prior to attachment to the enamel. Methods: 50 human third molars were selected according to criteria and were then mounted in acrylic dies 2cm x 2cm. The sample was divided into 4 groups: the first group, or control group, consisting of five teeth which were cemented Protect brand brackets without any preparation; the second group, Unitek, consisted of 15 teeth to which ceramic Gemini Clear braces were cemented; the third group, also consisting of 15 teeth, utilized Illusion ceramic brackets from the Plus Ortho Organizers group; and finally the Protect brackets group were also attached to 15 teeth. The 45 brackets of the experimental groups were treated by silane, chlorhexidine, and acetone before being cemented. After 72 hours, a shear test using an MTS universal testing machine was conducted, after which the remaining adhesive ARI (adhesive remnant index) was analyzed. Results: Gemini Clear braces had the highest average values (23.37 MPa) peel strength compared to Illusion (19.34 MPa) and Protect brackets (13,53 MPa). The ARI showed that more samples are located at ARI 1 (46%), followed by ARI 0 (26%), then ARI 3 (20%) and finally ARI 2 (8%). Using SEM the damage to the enamel was calculated after the shear test by measuring and comparing the diameter of the cracks caused in the enamel. The highest average was found in the Illusion group with a value of 6.699 microns; the Protect group had an average of 4,331 um and the lowest average value obtained was Unitek at 1,197 um. Conclusions: All samples submitted to the shear test showed evidence of shear bond strength increased, the supports being UnitekTM those who achieved the best resistance, in addition it was those with less damage to the enamel in accordance with statistical tests.
