Cálculo de las emisiones de CO2 por consumo de energía, consumo de agua y generación de residuos en la universidad San Francisco de Quito Ext. Galápagos y en el Galápagos Science Center

The geographical location of the Galapagos Islands and the importance of their ecosystems make it a very attractive and interesting area to implement projects or sustainable initiatives that allow efficient use of research resources. The objective of this project was to calculate CO2 emissions associated with the operations of energy consumption, water consumption and waste characterization of the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) Galapagos Extension and the Galapagos Galapagos Science Center (GSC) for the year 2014. The base line of CO2 emissions and sustainability indicators were established for the 2014 period. The emissions calculated for that year was a total of 122.63 tCO2, equalling 0.33 tons per student. The highest consumption period was between May and July, where an increase was recorded in operations USFQ ext. Galapagos and the GSC in San Cristobal. This report represents the interests of USFQ to lead change in our society and especially in fragile and unique ecosystems such as the Galapagos archipelago.
