Diseño e implementación del Sistema de Información Geográfico (SIG) para la Empresa Pública de Ferrocarriles del Ecuador

Ecuador Public Railways Company, begins the process of rehabilitation of the railway system as a patrimony for tourism. It aims to become one of the most important local developments in Ecuador. That implies comsiderations regarding administrative, comercial and operational tasks, which make an adecuate and efficient use of Geographic information Systems GIS vital. It is to be shown how GIS can enable the public enterprise to optimally organize, relate and analyze all relevant data by systemizing the spatial content of these data, fill missing gaps of information by georeferenced acquisition in order to build an informative platform for an early decision making process in a complex planning procedure.The resulting framework for a GIS planning platform aims to be a valuable tool then not only for planning, but also for the management tasks that the public enterpise of Ferrocarriles del Ecuador will have to accomplish in order to make it a first quality tourism attraction on a national and international level.
