摘要

The need to provide the population of Quito with basic services of potable water and sewage has forced the authorities to subcontract the needed infrastructure. In Quito, the EPMAPS, has an integrated management system, which establishes standards of security policy in the development of their activities and their subcontractors. Continuous improvement of that system and compliance with the national legislation implementing a Safety Management System and Health, has facilitated a starting point to identify and assess risks in the various mechanical processes that are part of the construction of Sewers Systems, in order to assess and estimate the mechanical risks of activities the personnel are most affected to through risk assessment techniques using the Fine Method and the NTP 330 Method, the results have demonstrated the high risk of working into ditches and activities happening at the same time at the trench edges, as well as the exposure of falls and entrapment by collapsing trench walls that workers can suffer; so it has been determined the need to define a protection mechanisms for the entire work force even at the beginning of the design stage.
