The aim of this study is to determine whether the use of acid etching on glass ionomer (Vitremer) improves the shear bond strength to the composite.30 samples were tested, each sample is formed by a cylindrical block of acrylic 4 cm high and 2 cm in diameter which formed the basis of the sample, on the inlay acrylic glass ionomer (Vitremer) having placed 2mm thickness and 12 mm in diameter. The 30 samples they were separated into three groups of 10 each. In the first group, tha restoration was made without the use of phosphoric acid, 2 layers of adhesive on the glass ionomer was applied and subsequently placed 3mm of Composite. In the second group, 35% phosphoric acid was placed during 15 seconds over the glass ionomer prior to placement of the adhesive and resin, and finally in the third group was placed phosphoric acid for 30 seconds. The samples were stored in water at 37 ° C for 5 days before being failed in shear. The adhesion strength was calculated in megapascals and analyzed with an analysis of 3 groups. The averages were compared with the methods of Bonferroni and Tukey Krammer, calculated at a significance level of 0.05.Of the total samples analyzed, group 1 had an average of 4. 73 MPa being the group with the most high values of resistance registered, followed by group 2 with an average of 4.36 MPa and finally group 3 with less force recorded with an average of 3.90 MPa. When performing statistical analyzes, there were no statistically significant differences among the three groups were obtained.
