Objective: The objective of this study is to assess the minimum time of adhesion of the Porous Polyethylene in the corneal stroma of pigs as an alternative to prosthetic haptic portion of the cornea. Methods; Animal intervention studies with implantation of porous polyethylene five discs in the corneal stroma of five eyes of pigs with different analysis of adherence to time in refereed 30/45/60/75 and 90 days exposed. We analyzed the respective areas and fractal dimension images of scanning electron from one end of the midsection of the five disks and compared. Results: The ratio of sectional area of the periphery of the whole stroma / polyethylene 53835/29374 analysis was 30 days (P1OC) 53585/24758 in 45 days (P2OC) 115119/117455 60 days (P3OC) 94771/91579 in 75 days (P4OC) and 85860/81742 in 90 days (P5OC), p = 0. 041. The relationship between the Fractal Dimension set stroma / polyethylene was 1. 0534 / 1. 1397 at 30 days (P1OC) 1, 0544 / 1. 1127 in 45 days (P2OC) 1. 0370 / 1. 0410 in 60 days (P3OC) 1. 0471 / 1. 1016 at 75 days (P4OC) and 1. 066 / 1. 1154 in 90 days (P5OC ), p = 0. 019. Being the smallest difference of 0. 004 Fractal Dimension to 60 days and a lower percentage difference of area of 3. 36 at 75 days. Conclusion: Image analysis showed tendency of adhesion between the stroma and the polyethylene from the 60th day of exposure, despite the small number of extrusion amostra. There was no extrusion evidenced in any of the periods analysed. Should it say that the biocompatible porous polyethylene is maintained in time noted, however further study is needed to verify its longterm behavior.
