Continuous composite beams with incomplete interaction have been little attended to the investigators not only in Japan but also in the other countries. Difficulty in the analysis of continuous composite beams lies in the fact that cracks occur in the concrete slab in the region of negative bending moment. Some of the investigators analyse continuous beams on the assumption that the concrete slab is effective even under tension. This assumption, which does dot match to the actual concrete behavior, simplifies the analysis. Yam et al assume in their analysis that concrete has no tensile strength. They, however, employ the predictor-corrector method which takes long computational time for the analysis, especially for the analysis of continuous beams. The present paper discusses an analytical method for continuous composite beams with incomplete interaction. A finite element method which has been presented in the previous bulletin is improved for the use of nonlinear analyses, where concrete is assumed to have no tensilestrength. Several numerical examples are herein shown, including 2-span and 3-span continuous beams and continuous beams with discontinuous spacing of shear connectors.
