The relationship between pitting potential and the potential scan rate for AISI 304L (UNS S30403) and AISI 31 6L (UNS S31603) stainless steels in a 5% sodium chloride (NaCl) solution was analyzed using a stochastic approach. From a linear dependence of the hazard function upon the potential, pitting corrosion was predicted to increase linearly with the square root of the potential scan rate.
