When it comes to equestrian disciplines, the horseriderdyad is amongst the most discussed topics. Recently theemergence of equitation science has led to an increased interestin objectively quantifying the interaction between the rider andhorse. In this paper a methodology is presented to evaluate howthe mental state of police horses interacts with that of their ridersin order to assess the performance of police horses. This paperdemonstrates how Body Sensor Network technology can beapplied for real-time monitoring of the horse-rider dyad. Theresults of the study demonstrate that the mental state interactionbetween rider and horse is significantly different between badpolice horses and good police horses.
