Heiliging door het Paasmysterie. Een studie van de theologische betrekkingen tussen de liturgie van de eucharistie en de liturgie van de getijden in de Romeinse en de Syro-Malabar Rites

In the context of the 50th anniversary of Sacrosanctum Concilium, we investigate the theological bases of the liturgy particularly through a detailed study of the relations between liturgy of the Eucharist and the Liturgy of the Hours. Though the council asserted the importance of the Liturgy of Hours (Divine Office) as official public prayers of the Church, liturgists and theologians do not seem to have given due attention to the significance of these prayers in the life and mission of the Church. Therefore, we intend to investigate the theological connections between the liturgy of the Eucharist and the Liturgy of the Hours by looking closely to the liturgy itself as well as to magisterial teachings, historical studies, and theological reflections. The project focuses on the Roman Rite and the Syro-Malabar Rite, which belongs to the East-Syrian tradition, and aims to contribute to the mutual understanding of different rites within the same faith community. Though the paschal mystery is assumed to be the underlying principle of both liturgical forms, we plan to study this hypothesis in depth. For up until now no completely liturgico-theological study is done in this respect including both the West and East liturgical traditions. So we plan to do pioneering work in this field with the hope that many other scholars will follow us in the coming years.
